II in review: [12 Apr 2006|03:00pm]

All right, so after however many months I waited for the album to be released, I finally get my hands on Mindcrime II.

And ya know what? I'm pissed.

After listening to it, I've decided that Queensryche couldn't have possibly written the original story because II was just awful. There was nothing political or epic about this record. Nikki has about .05 seconds of "Grrr I want revenge!" and then there is some chase involving Dr. x and blah blah blah... but that left the rest of the album with the concept: "Oh, Mary is dead... now what?"

I'm sorry, how can I feel sympathy or in any way shape or form emotional towards Nikki about Mary? - she killed herself. If she was raped and murdered, the maybe. Either way, Nikki was just a junkie feeling sorry for himself that his ex-prostitute turned nun lover killed herself... then there's a whole lot of "I have nothing to live for" bullshit, which eventually leads to Nikki's suicide.

And the fact that they used Ronnie James Dio as Dr. X further signifies that celebrity cameos are never a good sign.

I seriously need to write Geoff Tate a letter or something.

I'm so sad.

Mindcrime has been put on hold again. Yeah, I know - SORRY. But I sort of have other [[important]] things on the brain at the moment. Like moving.

So yeeeeaaahh. I'll get back to everyone when I'm done LOSING MY MIND.

Besides, I still don't know who's down for this yet.

[17 Oct 2005|04:33pm]

I just need to know who is ::fairly certain:: that they want to be in on this. I need to get started on re-writting the "screenplay" and "stage directions". This itself is probably going to take a couple [cough ::many::] months, so don't freak on me and say that I'm getting started too soon. [[I'm quite fastidious when I write]]

Finalizing cast and crew:

Nikki - - - TBA
Mary - - - [taken]
Dr. X - - - [taken]
Nurse Debbie - - - [taken(?)]
Father William - - - TBA
Policemen (2) - - - TBA

(... and extras...)

Camera crew/audio: I only have one so far. Possibly two. I need more!
[also, someone who is decent with computers//editing]

[Good lord, I have a lot of work to do.]

So this is all I have at the moment. Pretty pitiful. If you need to talk to me more about something, or if you're completely serious about being "cast" as one of the parts, email me at:
and we'll figure this out.

Remember, this is just for a rough outline of what [and who] I have to work with. Actual production won't start rolling for months. Maybe a year. But I need to know who's just as into this idea as I am.

[15 Oct 2005|12:09pm]

I'm starting to lose faith in this again.

Maybe I'm aiming too high.

Maybe I'm just insane.

[13 Oct 2005|11:23am]

So, how's this for a wonderful coincidence?

I'm cleaning out my closet, and I find my binder with all of the Mindcrime notes I took [was it last year?] I'm so glad I never threw that out.

- - - - -
First order on business:

We need to re-establish cast and crew.

- - - - -

I know that me resurrecting this vision is sort of abrupt and everything, so I also know that the prospect of filming won't start for a while. If you are really busy with school/work then don't attempt to make a commitment. It just won't work.

For a timeline, I want to take the upcoming month or so to scope out places to film, and that includes talking to the rightful authorities, so we don't get freakin' arrested. Hah. When that's all taken care of, I just want to spend the winter shooting the small[er] scenes... Then take the spring and summer to complete it. I'm thinking taking it on the road. I mean, a shitload of us are planning a road-trip anyways, why not do something artistic and [hopefully] productive along the way? I want to get some scenes with D.C in the film...

I have so many ideas its not even funny.

Start posting, motherfuckers! Let me know I'm not alone in this!

I'm buying either two or three tickets, I think. The first two are for Leesam and Celsa. I should be able to cover most of his gas. All I need from the two of you is your word that you'll do it up if I make it possible. The third ticket is for me if I decide not to work that Saturday.

QUEENSRŸCHE Bassist Talks About 'Operation: Mindcrime' Sequel - Nov. 5, 2004

QUEENSRŸCHE bassist Eddie Jackson recently spoke to RockConfidential.com about the group's current tour and their forthcoming CD, the next chapter to the 1988 ground-breaking concept album, "Operation: Mindcrime", tentatively titled "Operation: Mindcrime II". Several excerpts from the interview follow:

RockConfidential.com: How is it you're incorporating a preview of "Operation: Mindcrime II"? Is it a live preview, audio samples, video...

Eddie Jackson: "What we've put together is a video with a song that's potentially going to be on the next release. As of right now we're really looking for a sequel to 'Operation: Mindcrime'. As soon as we're off stage — the last song is 'Eyes of a Stranger' — as soon as we walk off the video comes on with the new music. It's almost like a pseudo-encore. It's not really us performing but it's us giving them an audio track of a song that could be on the next release with a video behind it. We don't know if something like that has ever been done before. You'll see 'Operation: Mindcrime' with the roman numeral II on the monitors. The fans get a kick outta that. There's a lot of anticipation for a sequel. I have a lot of mixed emotions with this because there is something magical and spiritual. There is integrity and the whole chemistry we had when we created the first 'Mindcrime'. To do a follow-up for that is like, do we wanna mess with the mojo, ya know? You're gonna hear that throughout the course of the tour. Some fans will say it takes a lot of guts to do something like that, especially with the success of the first one. There's other fans that are saying they can't wait for the sequel. Some fans have been waiting for the sequel ever since the first one was released 16 years ago. It's a tough pill to swallow. All you can do is write the best you can. We really have no control over what it's going to do when it's released, how it's going to perform sales-wise. Hopefully it will connect."

RockConfidential.com: Was the original 'Mindcrime' written with every intention of doing a sequel? Did you have the answers to questions like the ones you just brought up or are you having to think up a new story with the answers?

Eddie Jackson: "It's definitely like 'Operation: Mindcrime' in the new millennium. Sonically it could sound different. Stylistically it could sound different. We're still trying to capture that same sort of sequel feel like they do in movies. Some characters are gone but you'll maybe create new characters to keep the story going. We never really anticipated doing a sequel, let alone still doing this 20 years later! Since this is happening, 'Mindcrime' is definitely a lot more popular now that it was when it was first released. That's interesting because there's a whole new generation of fans being exposed to it. You've got to 'Speak the word,' ya know?"

RockConfidential.com: So how far along are you with the songwriting process?

Eddie Jackson: "It's hard to say. We have quite a bit of material written. Half the material has lyrics that we feel could be complete songs. As it always happens you'll start to rearrange songs before you go into the studio. That's inevitable. Ever since we've been recording it's been very rare if we've written a song that's complete and not had to tamper with it.

RockConfidential.com: There is a big difference in the band from the original "Mindcrime" — [guitarist] Chris DeGarmo is gone. Has he been asked or is he interested in contributing to the "Mindcrime" sequel?

Eddie Jackson: "There has been talk. Nothing has developed. It's hard to say because he stepped out in '97. He did help write on the 'Tribe' record. There was always that possibility of him coming back and writing with us for the sequel. Whether it will or not remains to be seen. I think it'd be great to bring him back because he was part of the first 'Mindcrime'. Stylistically it would definitely have that cohesiveness. Mike Stone's a very talented guitar player. He's got a little different style from what Chris had. That's not a bad thing. Maybe that's good. Do we want to create the same style like we did in the past? It has to have its intensity and its dynamics because it's 16 years later. Maybe it's not a bad idea to write the sequel with a different guitar player."

Erg...... [14 Sep 2004|04:04pm]

[ mood | bitchy ]

So um... I've been thinking a bit, and even though things completely suck right now, I simply cannot say "Fuck Mindcrime" just yet. Why? Because I made a commitment to do this project, not only to the other people who agreed to participate in it, but to Mullins as well. Remember, I wanted to do this initially for a school project. This is something I want to explore once I get out of high school, and having this movie under my belt would be perfect. So I guess I'm saying that this project will procede as planned. Hopefully Leesam and I can work something out for when he returns if he's still interested in doing it.

However, that still leaves the issue of Nikki... Yeah, Powas, quite frankly we do need you for this [although I am in no hurry to admit that...] You are the only one who knows the fucking album forwards and backwards and I am willing to swallow my pride and work on a professional level to get this done. [Why am I even posting this to him? I don't even think he has it on his Friends list, so how will he read it? Leesam? Terri? Inform him, please?]

Yeah... Why do I still have the feeling that this won't get done, even though this is actually something that I really need to get done. I guess we'll know who's committed and who's not.

fuck Mindcrime.

yeah, you heard me. Fuck this project. Leesam and I were probably the only two people who were absolutely serious about doing this thing. and just like evrything else, it was a lie, and a load of shit.

- Anarchy X
- Revolution Calling
- Operation Mindcrime
- Spreading the Disease
- Suite Sister Mary
- Breaking the Silence

these are what I have the most ideas for. Basically saying if we're going to start, then we should start with these first. That's the beautiful thing about editing... you don't have to go in order.

I am going to have so much fun with Spreading the Disease.... Teehee....

[19 Aug 2004|09:28pm]

Figured I'd try and get things posting in here.
First idea:
Since Leesam is listed as a camera man, we're going to get him to the studio and get him set up to film things. We'll get some policy info as well, see what their thoughts on us filming outside of Mansfield are. There is still a good chance we're going to need a camera of out own, since I can't imagine the studio will be down with all our plans...
In fact, we might even want to use the camera for something else officially, and split shooting times. That might just be me being paranoid though.

Ok, so this is it, people, I made the Mindcrime Movie Journal. Who's proud of me? Post whatever ideas you have for this artistic vision and whatnot; Terri, you can post the lyrics more safely here. Hehe.
Everybody enjoy!
